Jeff Jerebker is Long-Term Care’s Renaissance Man

How does an internal cost accountant for American Can step away from suits and a clean shave to blue jeans, flannel shirts, long hair, a shaggy beard and become an anti-materialistic minimalist?

How does the mystical world introduced by Guru Maharaj Ji, the communal living of The Farm and the evolving political world convert one to become an entrepreneurial change agent?

How does an unassuming guy become a pioneer in long-term care, taking over troubled nursing homes and transforming them into flourishing communities of excellence?

Meet the life and times of Jeff Jerebker. A man who changed the landscape of long- term care for residents; for their family members; and for a variety of organizations that he led and worked with.

In Oh Mercy! The Coming of Age of a Nursing Home Pioneer, you will discover a man who encountered challenges and obstacles, created a team that revolutionized long-term care management, bringing it into the 21st century.

Along the way, you will turn on, tune in, and drop out, AND be glad you did.

Leadership from the Heart. In 1968, the first ripple of profound change seeped through Jeff Jerebker’s sleeping consciousness. Watching the Democratic Convention in Chicago on the heels of the assassination of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., disbelief swirled around him. Observing the police riots on the streets, the chaos in the convention center and the suppression of anti-war delegates, he was convinced that the American political system was corrupt and repressive.

Listening to this cacophony of disorder and repression, Bob Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone played in Jerebker’s head as the perfect soundtrack for the surreal movie unfolding before his eyes. He had to do something different than what he was currently doing.

His doing something led to a revamping of what long-term care management could be through his creation of Piñon Management. It led to the expose of gross mismanagement and massive lack of leadership in state and privately owned facilities. Doing something inspired his path to change lifeless, institutional models of care and transform them into vibrant person-centered care communities.

In Oh Mercy! The Coming of Age of a Nursing Home Pioneer, Jeff Jerebker embodies critical thinking, analysis, and the principle of healthy dialectics.

  1. Despite the glaring lessons history provides, the world continues to need pioneers in individual liberties. As a fierce champion of independence, decency and individual choice, Jeff Jerebker laid groundwork for change. He has positively impacted the culture in which we age and both he and my mom made a significant, ongoing difference in the lives of others – there could be no greater success.
~ Cynthia Fraser Taylor, daughter of Virginia Fraser, 20 year Colorado State Ombudsman

  2. He has traveled the intellectual and spiritual Realms of Consciousness looking for what is true and real and just and meaningful and good. And then he brought it down to earth and made it real in the material world. That’s what Piñon was about –building a bridge to a noble vision. The yin and the yang, the compassionate balance point. A sacred community where respect is rampant and the bottom line thrives as love fueled clumps of grass break through the concrete pavement of institutionalization.
~ Barry Barkan, Co-Director, Live Oak Institute

  3. As Chief Financial Officer, I had the privilege of working very closely with Jeff Jerebker. My position afforded me with a unique insight into the man, an inspirational and entrepreneurial leader, with the right combination of integrity, humility and humor. His willingness to stand up and make a difference, despite the cost, truly sets him apart from his peers.
~ Thomas Gilmartin, CFO, National Health Care Associates

  4. A tireless leader in changing the paradigm, changing the culture, and yet also able to run a successful business employing hundreds of people who are happy to take up the battle alongside him.
~ Jack York, Founder, It’s Never 2 Late

  5. Because of Jeff’s humility and authenticity, this ‘gentle giant’s’ memoirs will capture your heart and take you to a safe haven of a renewed faith in humanity.
~ Sarah M. Rowan, Board Member, Eden Alternative
