“We have met the enemy and he is us.” – Walt Kelly

There’s a lot of chatter out there and a cacophony of noise, people talking at each other more than to each other. In this age of mass communication, one might hope for the reverse. It doesn’t appear that way to me.

The surface clamor drowns out deeper thought. Banal ideological rants, usually reposted from political party propaganda, lack critical insight in most cases. It kind of reminds me of a title of a book about introverts written by Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking.

  1. Oh yes, the noise many people make, without ever saying anything substantial… I think it might be referred to as ‘blethering’ by the Scots?
Kind of reminds me of people who simply HAVE to have the TV, Radio or some racket going perpetually. I suspect it’s because they don’t really want to hear what is going on in their minds since they are trying so desperately to escape their inner voice…
I have to go check out that book title now…
